Elizabeth Stride

The third victim of Jack The Ripper was 44 year old Elizabeth Stride.

How was she found murdered?

Elizabeth was found by a gentleman named Louis Diemschutz at approximately 1:00 a.m in the morning, on Sunday 30 September 1888. Louis was driving a horse pulling a two-wheel court when the horse all of a sudden took a sharp turn to the left to avoid something on the ground.

Louis described seeing a “dark object” on the ground. Initially he tried moving the unknown object with his whip handle from his cart but this was unsuccessful. Upon leaving the cart to get a closer look to move the object, he lit a match and soon realised that it was a body.

The body he had found, was that of Elizabeth Stride.

When was her funeral and where is she buried?

The funeral for Elizabeth Stride was held on Saturday 6 October 1888. She was buried in the East London Cemetery, which is in the East London district of Plaistow.
